Motorcycle Tours USA

Alaska to California, one road at a time

Few routes test a rider like the open roads of the United States. On a motorcycle tour in the USA you cross glaciers, mountain passes and desert canyons in a single journey, riding from the wild edges of Alaska toward the Pacific coast. Gravel stretches, national parks and long horizons shape the days. This is a ride built for riders who want distance, altitude and terrain that keeps changing under their wheels.

From glaciers to desert canyons on two wheels

Motorbike tours USA reveal a continent of contrasts

A motorcycle tour through the USA takes you far beyond a single landscape. You start among the glaciers and mountain highways of Alaska, then head south through the Rocky Mountains, where gravel roads and high passes cut through Glacier and Yellowstone National Park. Days in Montana and Wyoming give way to the red rock formations of Utah and Arizona, with stops near Moab, Bryce Canyon and Zion.

Further along, the route crosses the desert landscapes of Nevada before reaching California, where Death Valley, the Sequoia forests and the winding coastal roads lead you toward Los Angeles. Around 15 percent of the route runs over gravel, with paved alternatives available on many stretches. Motorcycle tours in the USA combine this varied terrain with rest days in Banff, Moab and Las Vegas, giving you time to take in the scale of the landscape before continuing.

Any questions about your motorbike tour of USA?

Whether it’s the best time to travel, the right country, your experience as a rider or the local arrangements – here you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our motorbike tours in USA.

The USA route offered by Motor2Travel runs 32 days and covers more than 10,000 kilometres, starting in Alaska and finishing in Los Angeles. That length allows the route to include the Rocky Mountains, national parks in Utah and Nevada, and the California coast, with rest days built in along the way in places like Banff, Moab and Las Vegas.

Some offroad experience helps, since around fifteen percent of the route runs on gravel roads through areas like the Magruder Corridor and parts of Alaska. Paved alternatives are available on many of these sections, so the tour stays accessible for riders who prefer to stick to tarmac while still following the same overall route.

The tour uses a BMW F750GS as the standard rental motorcycle. Riders who want a different setup can upgrade to a BMW F850GS or a BMW R1250GS, depending on availability. This gives you some flexibility to match the bike to your own riding style before setting off on the route.

The tour is guided throughout, with a multilingual tour leader riding along on a motorcycle. A support vehicle follows the group, handling luggage transport and carrying a mechanic in case of technical issues. Groups stay small, with a minimum of eight and a maximum of twelve participants, keeping the ride personal despite the distance covered.

The route passes through several well known parks, including Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Death Valley and Sequoia National Park. Each stop adds a different landscape to the ride, from geothermal terrain and mountain scenery to red rock canyons, desert basins and forests with sequoia trees.

Yes, the route crosses into Canada as part of the journey between Alaska and the Rocky Mountains. This border crossing adds mountain scenery around Banff to the itinerary before the route re-enters the United States and continues south through Montana, Wyoming and the states further along the way.
