Peru's route climbs to passes near 4750 metres before dropping into the Amazon lowlands, linking Arequipa, Cusco and the Colca Canyon along the way.
Further south, Patagonia offers a different kind of challenge. The route follows the Carretera Austral and Ruta 40 for roughly 4650 kilometres, with close to 1000 kilometres on unpaved surfaces, ending near Ushuaia.
