Tanzania & Kenya Motorcycle Tour

Early in the morning, we set off as a motorcycle group from Arusha, heading towards Mount Meru. Along the way, we take a break in Mererani Township and, with a bit of luck, might get the chance to visit a Maasai market. The route takes us through diverse terrain, from paved roads to off-road trails. A refreshing stop at the natural hot springs of Maji Moto offers a perfect moment to relax before we continue towards Moshi and finally Marangu, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, where we spend the night. Marangu, famous as the starting point of the Marangu Route to the summit of Africa’s highest peak (5,895 m), offers lush landscapes, waterfalls, coffee plantations, and a glimpse into the traditional Chagga culture. Approximately half of the journey today is on unpaved roads.

Today we turn towards the Pare Mountains and follow dirt tracks through the hills. We take a winding gravel road that is easy to ride. After a lunchbreak, we continue on a gravel road near to the border with Kenya. We make our way uphill to the Pare Mountains with a beautiful view of the small towns and villages scattered over the hills. Some parts riding up and down the mountains may be difficult but fun, then we proceed downhill on dirt roads until we reach the hotel in Same. We ride approximately 75% on dirt roads.

Today, you’ll embark on an exciting ride through rocky, sandy, and hilly trails, accompanied by stunning views of the Eastern Pare and Usambara Mountains. The route takes you through untouched savannah and along the Kalimawe Lake, surrounded by small villages and rice plantations. Next, we’ll near the Mkomazi National Park, known for frequent wildlife sightings. After lunch, the journey continues through the Usambara Mountains, a region with breathtaking viewpoints, forests, and traditional villages like Mnazi and Mlalo, where you'll experience the authentic life of the Sambaa people. The winding road leads us to Mtae (Mambo Village), located over 2300 meters above sea level, where we’re rewarded with unique views of the region. Don’t forget to bring a sweater for this part of the trip. The riding will be 95% on unpaved roads.

The route from Mambo direction coast/Tanga offers an exciting mix of diverse landscapes and cultural experiences. We ride through the lush vegetation of the Usambara Mountains, passing dense forests and fertile farmlands before reaching the coast. Along the way, we have the opportunity to encounter wildlife such as forest elephants. Our destination is a charming, eco-friendly resort on a remote stretch of coastline north of Tanga, where you can enjoy the natural coastal charm. The route is about 95% off-road.

Our motorcycle journey continues as we enjoy the fresh breeze while riding along the Indian Ocean coastline. With the rising humidity, any chance for cooling off is welcome! After crossing the border from Tanzania into Kenya, our route takes us toward the Shimba Hills. The Shimba Hills are a stunning nature reserve south of Mombasa, known for their lush forests, expansive savannas, and diverse wildlife. From there, we head further to Diani Beach, one of Kenya’s most famous beaches. Here, we relax with refreshing drinks on the white sand and take a moment to reflect on the adventure so far. The route is about 60% off-road.

A Well-Deserved Rest Day! The coastline of Kenya stretches along the Indian Ocean, offering stunning beaches and coral reefs. Diani Beach, located south of Mombasa, is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Africa. With its fine sand, crystal-clear waters, and palm trees, it’s perfect for swimming, diving, and kite surfing. Relaxing beach bars invite you to unwind,and you can spot dolphins and monkeys in the area. It’s the ideal place to enjoy Kenya’s coast while your rental motorcycles are being professionally serviced.

From the Coast to the Heart of Kenya. We leave the coast behind and continue our motorcycle journey through Kenya. Our route takes us towards Kwale and then into the Shimba Hills, where we ride alternately on paved roads and unpaved tracks through agricultural areas and nature. From there, we move through the bush, where the Maasai tend to their cattle and goats. Tonight's accommodation is simple, but the evening offers a unique experience: a campfire under the clear starry sky, accompanied by the sounds of the African night. The route is approximately 90% on gravel road.

The route takes us further through the stunning Masai land towards Lake Jipe. Along the way, we pass near the famous Tsavo National Park, renowned for its rich wildlife. We’ll have opportunities to spot wildlife  along the road in their natural habitat. Lake Jipe, located on the border between Kenya and Tanzania, offers a breathtaking view of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. The lake is a true paradise for birdwatchers, with a diverse range of bird species. Elephants are often seen coming to the shore to drink. Another highlight of the day is a canoe ride on the lake, where, with a bit of luck, we may spot buffalo and hippos in their natural environment. We stay in a midrange lodge.

Today, we’ll cover about 70% of the route on gravel roads, with some sandy trails along the way.

Our motorcycle journey takes us deep into rural Kenya, where we explore the heart of the region on gravel roads. We cross the Maasai lands, where rivers are fed by the mighty Kilimanjaro. After riding through small village sand pristine landscapes, we reach Oloitoktok, a town near the famous Amboseli National Park. Especially on clear days, you'll have a unique opportunity to admire Mount Kilimanjaro in all its glory. In Oloitoktok, we prepare for the optional safari adventure in Amboseli National Park. About 85% of today’s route is on gravel roads.

Today, you have the opportunity to join an optional 4x4 Jeep safari in Amboseli National Park – one of Kenya’s most renowned safari destinations. The park is famous for its large elephant herds and a wide variety of other wildlife, including buffalo, wildebeests, zebras, and lions. The breathtaking view of the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro is truly unforgettable and offers the perfect backdrop for stunning photos. Don't forget to bring extra batteries and memory cards for your camera – a 4x4 safari in Amboseli National Park will leave you with memories that last a lifetime.

Early in the morning, we leave the Amboseli National Park area and head through the vast savannahs and rural landscapes. Along the way, there will be opportunities for wildlife watching because we ride along the national park. We cross the border from Kenya into Tanzania and reach Longido, a small town at the foot of Mount Longido. This region is known for its Maasai community, which has preserved its traditional way of life. About 75% of the route consists of gravel roads, making the ride a true adventure.

Only the first few kilometers in town to the turnoff are on asphalt, the rest today is gravel, rocky and dusty. Once we are on the gravel roads, the landscape changes into wilderness and there are no more villages apart from a few small houses. You will see the first giraffes moving through the bushes. Small pockets of sand can make these routes a bit challenging at moments. We will have a simple lunch in a small Masaai town before we get a beautiful view of Mount Lengai, the sacred Masaai Mountain. After the turnoff to the South, we will see the outside wall of the Ngorongoro crater. Just before we reach our destination, we will have a challenging track through dense forests and open plains. Mto Wa Mbu is translated into Musquito River, a vibrant town known for its diverse cultures and bustling markets It is a nice busy town close to the entrance gate to the Ngorogoro and Serengeti National Park. About 99% of the route consists of gravel and rocky roads, with some small sandpockets.

As you ride towards Monduli, the scenery transforms into rolling hills and lush valleys. Stop at the small town of Monduli, where you can experience local culture and perhaps visit a Maasai village. The vibrant markets and traditional crafts provide a glimpse into the daily lives of the Maasai people. Continuing towards Arusha, the road offers breathtaking views of Mount Meru in the distance. Take a break at one of the viewpoints to capture the stunning landscape. As you approach Arusha, the bustling city life contrasts with the serene countryside you’ve just traversed. In Arusha, explore the local markets, enjoy delicious Tanzanian cuisine, and consider visiting the nearby Arusha National Park for more wildlife experiences. This route not only showcases Tanzania & Kenia’s natural beauty but also its rich cultural heritage, making for an unforgettable motorcycle journey. About 85% of the route consists of gravel roads.

You will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), or you can choose to extend your trip. You might consider adding a safari tour to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, or a relaxing stay on Zanzibar.
